Direct cultivation method of watermelon seeds

1. Pick a time

Before planting watermelon seeds, it is necessary to choose the correct planting time. There are three different types of watermelons: early, medium and late. Among them, early-maturing watermelons can be cultivated around March, mid-maturing watermelons can be cultivated in April-June, and late-maturing varieties are not suitable for cultivation until July.

2. Soil selection

Different from ordinary fruits, such as humus and garden soil required by trees such as apples or peaches, watermelon is a dicotyledonous flowering plant, in order to ensure the accumulation of its sugar and ensure the value of the product. It is necessary to use sandy soil with a relatively small specific heat capacity as the substrate. The sandy soil will not accumulate water, but it must have a certain foundation fertility.

3. Temperature control

Watermelon can only grow in a warmer and humid environment. Once it encounters a sudden drop in temperature or cold air, it will cause serious damage to the watermelon. Its seeds can only germinate and break the soil in an environment above 18 degrees Celsius, and during the growth period, make sure that the room temperature is maintained at about 32 degrees Celsius.

4. Maintenance work

After the watermelon is cultivated, in addition to watering to keep the soil moist, a plastic film is usually used as a mulch to cover the soil where the watermelon seeds are planted. This can slow down the drying rate of the soil and retain moisture, and also control the temperature to a certain extent, making it less susceptible to frost damage.
