Tomato seeds are germinated before sowing, which can promote the rapid development of young embryos, shorten the time of seed germination and promote the neat and rapid emergence of seedlings. In the process of germination, it is necessary to provide suitable temperature, moisture and air environment. The optimum temperature for tomato seed germination is 25-30°C, and the relative humidity is above 90%. During the germination process, the seeds should be checked and turned frequently, and the seeds should be rinsed with warm water at about 30°C 1-2 times every day, and the surface water of the seeds should be dried or dried for a while to continue germination, so as to maintain the humidity, replace the air, and promote all the seeds Germinate evenly. Under suitable conditions, tomato seeds can germinate after 2 to 3 days. Commonly used methods of germination are as follows:
1. Tile pot germination method
Wash the soaked and sterilized seeds, wrap them with clean wet gauze, and put them in a pot with rice straw to avoid water accumulation at the bottom and moldy seeds. Put the pot on the fire pit, hot pit head or germination box to germinate.
2. Sand-mixed germination method
Mix the washed seeds after soaking and disinfection with the washed river sand in a ratio of 1:1.5, put them in a tile pot, cover with wet sand or wet cloth, and then place them in a suitable temperature for germination.
3. Electrothermal temperature-controlled germination method
The temperature is controlled by installing an electronic temperature controller in the germination box, and the appropriate air humidity is maintained.
The control of the germination temperature should be slightly lower at the beginning, then gradually increase, and then lower when the radicle is about to break through the seed coat (down to 20-24°C) to make the radicle thick. When about 70% of the radicles of the seeds are white, the seeds should be wrapped in a wet towel and placed in the refrigerator. The temperature should be around 5 °C and the appropriate humidity should be maintained. When the conditions are good, sow the seeds.
